Fall Break Staycation Ideas in the Shoals for $10 Or Less

If you’re staying in town for Fall Break, you *might* be looking for fun outside your homestead at some point during the week.  Likewise, you probably want to find activities that won’t bust the bank. Just in case, we’ve put together several great options for $10 or less!

Get Artsy

The Tennessee Valley Art Museum has TONS of really cool objects on display, including shell and stone carvings, pottery, and projectile points, among others, that interpret the mastery of the earliest people of our area. Admission during the week is $5 for adults, $3 for students & children.

Visit the FAM Four

If one museum is great, four is even better! Florence Arts & Museum consists of four museums– Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts, Pope’s Tavern Museum, Florence Indian Mound & Museum, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Rosenbaum House. Not only is this a fun and educational way to enjoy your fall break, this is also a great way to escape the heat if Mother Nature didn’t get the memo that fall is supposed to be on the cooler side.

Explore through Play

Did you know that The Shoals has its very own children’s museum? Children’s Museum of The Shoals is one of our favorite places to visit. They have so many different activity rooms and a newly renovated outside space. Admission is $10 per person. Children 18 months and younger enter for free!

Park It

The Shoals has some amazing parks and playgrounds! Here are four of our favorites that delight the whole family!

  • Diebert Park offers a huge playground for toddlers and bigger kids, walking trails, restrooms, pavilions, and a pond that hosts monthly fishing days. Animals are welcomed as long as they are leashed. The park is a beautiful 70-acre oasis smack dab in the middle of beautiful Florence.

  • Riverfront Park is located on the shoreline of Pickwick Lake and has a playground, splash pad, and fishing opportunities.

Honorable Mention

The Mavis Movin’ and Grooving Tour is above our $10 self-imposed limit for this list, but it’s too cool not to share! Explore the Shoals like never before from the comfort of the tour bus! There are three different tour options. Tours are for ages 10 and up. Cost varies by tour ($28-70)
