Soak up the Charm and Fun at Belue Place Pumpkin Patch

As autumn leaves turn alongside the weather, everyone starts to seek out the quintessential Fall experience: a visit to a pumpkin patch farm. A pumpkin patch embraces the spirit of the season and offers a range of activities that all ages can enjoy. Many farms provide hayrides, corn mazes, petting zoos, festive foods, crafts, and more. But picking out the right patch to enjoy with your family can be a little overwhelming because distance, amenities, and activities all factor into choosing the perfect patch. So we have taken the time to explore some Shoals favorites to share with you!

This weekend Shoals Mom had the pleasure of visiting one of the local farms located right in our backyard, The Belue Place Pumpkin Patch. The Belue Place is nestled on 110 acres of beautiful land in Lexington, Alabama (about a 45-minute drive from downtown Florence), dating back all the way to 1892. Belue Place is centered around family, and you notice that as soon as you step into The Bonnet Cafe to purchase your armbands for the farm activities. You will likely be warmly greeted by one or both of the owners, Cathy and Cindy, who run the place alongside their children and grandchildren.

After we acquired our $15 armband that allows you access to ALL the activities on the property, including a pumpkin, we started exploring The Belue Place.

Mrs. Cathy gave us the schedule of the hayrides, which started at the top of each hour. The hayride will take you to the pumpkin patch on the back of the property, so you don’t want to miss it!

After the hayride, we took a stroll to the petting zoo, which housed baby goats, a mini horse, a pig, baby goats, rabbits, baby chicks, and my favorite, Pat, the donkey! The petting zoo was run by Cathy’s granddaughters, who made sure you said hello to each animal by name. They were also patient with my 2.5 year old who needed extra guidance on carefully holding a baby chick.

After the petting zoo, we headed to the corn cribs (a fan favorite). They actually have two located on the property: one under the hay loft and one behind the sand pit.  The Cow Train was our last activity of the day (and probably the most fun)! It is a train pulled by a four-wheeler on a scenic tour through the woods and pumpkin patch. You are welcome to ride with your littles, but my 2.5-year-old sat with ease in her own cart.

Other activities include a Hay Loft Jump with Slides, Tire Mountain, Horse Tire Swings, Playground, and Beauty Barn for tinsel hair($2), face painting($2), and tattoos($1).  *The Corn Maze this year is closed due to drought.

We ended our day with a snack at The Bonnet Cafe. Their menu included pulled pork sandwiches, burgers, nachos, hot dogs, and even homemade sweet treats like caramel apples, chocolate marshmallows, and so much more. No doubt you’ll be able to find something yummy.

The Belue Place Pumpkin Patch is truly a gem. As we closed out our visit with one last stop to the corn crib, I met a mother with her two older daughters (11 and 9) who started burying my little one in the corn. As they giggled, she told me they had been visiting The Belue Place since her girls were newborns and that she had known the family since high school. She said, “Each year, I think my girls will have outgrown coming to this pumpkin patch, and each year, they always want to come back.”

I think families are attracted to Belue’s charm and quaintness alongside all the fun and memories being made!

The Belue Family farm is on the smaller size (which is why I HIGHLY recommend it for littles). And though they may not be the size of some larger farms across North Alabama, they go above and beyond in family and tradition. The Belue Place Pumpkin Patch, without a doubt, will be a yearly stop for Shoals Mom!
