You blinked, and somehow, it’s halfway through July! The summer is ending, which means school is right around the corner. The emails are pouring in…kids are registered, orientations are lined up, school supply lists are sent, and teacher meetings are coming up.
We know it can all be overwhelming, so we want to lend a helping hand to alleviate some of those back-to-school blues!
Here is a list of some Shoals local businesses that give your kiddos that back-to-school glow—from new kicks to clothes to a new do. We are also adding a few Back-to-School Bashes for anyone needing extra help getting supplies.
Shopping for Littles
Oak + Ivy Threads is a specialty store for babies, children, and tweens in Tuscumbia, Alabama. They offer clothing, shoes, accessories, and gifts. We love their selection of toddler outfits and accessories. They even have clothes for mommas!
A children’s boutique filled with classic apparel and charming gifts thoughtfully selected for your little ones. We love Gretchen’s Haus for its customizable accessories and toys.
A curated collection of baby and children’s clothing and accessories in downtown Florence. They are perfect if you love to dress your kid in a more classic, clean-cut.
Styles for Tweens/Teens
Jar & Company is a retail boutique in Florence (beside Honey Baked Ham) that sells clothes for the whole family. Your teenage girl or boy can find the perfect first-day-of-school outfit here.
James & Alma has been the go-to shop for many years. Their mission is to empower you to feel beautiful and confident in your own skin, letting that shine through with your own style and personality. We love going here for accessories. Bonus points for having a baby section, which allows Mom, teen, and baby to all leave with goodies.
Alabama Outdoors A brand favorite in Alabama, especially the Shoals. It offers opportunities for all, but a great spot to shop for your favorite dude. They have a great selection of shoes from toddler to adults and accessories for your outdoorsy kid. This would be the perfect spot to stock up on water bottles and lunch boxes for the new year.
Online Stops
Nellie Mae is the perfect spot for your introvert kid who wants to shop from the convenience of home. They have an awesome selection for mommas and teens. Download their app for extra ease!
A simple and stylish baby boutique for ages newborn to 4y. They are completely online but have fun selections for your preschool/ kindergarten age kids.

All services are performed by students under the close watch of teachers/professionals. Shoals Hair Academy is one of our favorite places to get top-notch style on a budget.
